Bunk Beds Are What’s Happening Now!

Thursday Jan 19, 2012

It might seem a little bit odd to describe a type of bed many of us associate with “Leave it to Beaver,” “The Brady Bunch,” old college dorm rooms, and military barracks as being on the cutting edge. Well, it might be odd, but it sure isn’t wrong. Metal bunk beds have never been more relevant to contemporary home owners and condo and apartment dwellers.

Part of the reason is purely pragmatic — and not entirely pleasant. The fact of the matter is that, despite some recent good news, the current economic situation is not nearly as good as it could be for many, many people. Moreover, one major reason for that is an ongoing crisis is a housing market which is making it extremely hard even for people with steady jobs and relatively strong finances to obtain household loans from banks. That means that, like it or not, untold numbers of people are being forced to sit tight when they really would prefer to move to accommodate their growing family. That’s where the space saving wonders of twin bunk beds come into play. There’s simply no more efficient way to, er, store an increasing number of family members than by literally stacking them on top of each other.

Fortunately, that’s not entirely a bad thing as bunk beds are kind of fun in a lot of ways. The even better news is that furniture designers are being more and more creative with the design of bunk beds so those drab, ultra-functional bunks we associate with institutions are largely a thing of the past for the household market. Necessity really is the mother of invention and bunk beds are now available in more sizes and intriguing and clever configurations than ever before. Times might be tough all over, but bunks are booming.
